Mitsubishi Galant VR-4 1999

Mitsubishi Galant VR-4 1999 Photo 385 The Galant VR-4 is your standard 280PS (276 hp) Japanese sports-sedan, kind of a big brother to the boy racer Lancer Evo. Its twin-turbo 2.5-litre engine propels the sedan to 60 mph in under 6 clicks, with the wagon coming in about half a second later. The power is transmitted from the engine, through either a 5-speed manual or automatic transmission and sent to an AWD system, a la Lancer Evo, which incorporates Active Yaw Control to limit wheel spin. The semi-auto transmission provides a sequential shifting option and is quite clever, using both Normal and Sport modes to adapt to various road and weather conditions. The aggressive look of the VR-4 is distinguished from lesser Galant models by the large front air dam, lower ride height, bigger wheels and fatter tires. On the inside, the Galant provides power everything, air con, a CD player and soft but supportive Recaro leather seats however the stereo system is far below par and an ergonomic nightmare as is the CD changer. The VR-4 is a pretty thirsty camper (achieving 21 mpg on the highway), and doesn't posses the same refinement as some more upscale competition, say for example, an E-Class Benz, but for the same price the Galant is far quicker, faster and more agile than a corresponding E320. - by Traian Popescu
